Under the Dome
Womenswear & Menswear Collection
I created the brand Orientalis as a fully sustainable brand during my master studies at Istituto Marangoni.
Brand name is coming from the word “Orient” that is a historical term for the East, traditionally comprising anything that belongs to the Eastern world. It’s the Western interpretation of the Eastern heritage.
As Turkey is a bridge between Europe and Asia, I reconnected my brand name to the motifs of Turkish art and culture.
For the SS 21 collection I juxtaposed Mediterranean costal living with oriental influence. I was inspired by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
The collection is dominated by the hues of blue not only because it’s inspired by the Blue Mosque, but also it reminds us the Aegean sea.
Under the Dome Collection reflects Turkish motifs and Islamic arts into modern forms mixing bold prints and modern cuts with comfortable styles to bring effortlessly chic boho beach style for men and women.
The styles are not trend driven by what’s happening in the market, but rather I created timeless pieces distinctive to the brand. Each piece has a sense of timeless elegance that you know will not date after one season, but rather will have a place in your wardrobe for years and years.
Some garments are unisex like the peshtamal skirt, harem pants, or kimono. Shirts can be worn over-size over bikini tops, or the peshtamal skirt can be worn over swim trunks.
While designing garments I kept sustainability in mind, I chose fabrics with natural fibers and plant based trims. Leftover fabrics are used as patches.
